Regardless of how long you’ve been a business leader, you probably still have those days when you are keenly aware of the gaps in your knowledge and experience. The challenge for many of us is that we don’t set aside time to work “on” our business rather than “in” it. We might read books, attend industry seminars or even engage consultants, but we don’t regularly schedule time to focus on big-picture issues. The C12 Group is a unique forum for Christian CEOs and business owners who are intentional about business, ministry and personal growth.

Tony Tennaro founded Cornerstone Initiatives in 2004 for the purpose of offering The C12 Group programs in the Greater Charlotte business community. His mission “Moving businesses, through those who lead them, onto God’s agenda releasing the transforming power of Jesus Christ into all they touch. His Vision for Greater Charlotte states “Integrated lives, Transformed businesses and Eternal success!”

Tony enjoyed a successful career of increasing responsibilities in sales, marketing and general management in both large corporations and smaller entrepreneurial companies. Starting with the Quaker State Corporation, he advanced through a number of assignments to the position of leading their worldwide independent distributor business, representing one-third of this Fortune 500 Company’s total business. Tony was later recruited by Black & Decker to lead its new Automotive Sales Division. Constantly finding himself in the middle of corporate start-ups and turnaround situations, Tony was attracted to seek smaller entrepreneurial companies and the role of executive, partner and owner. This provided relevant experiences for him to share with others across a range of consumer and industrial markets, products and services.

As C12 Chair, he enthusiastically serves marketplace leaders, sharing his love of business strategy and performance, integrated into his foundation of faith. Results matter! How we treat people, handle money and the excellence of our products and services is simply the start of leading a successful and significant business. A profitable and well led business is an excellent platform from which to positively impact others and its greater purpose.

Tony speaks with groups of business leaders and at conferences on the topics of “Your Next Right Move” how to make wise decisions and advance careers and “Recalculating Route” a GPS for getting back on course and staying there.

The love and relationship of his family – wife Sheila, daughters Rebecca and her husband Neal, Laura and her husband Jon and Taryn plus grandsons- Ethan, Mathew and Cooper gives Tony daily opportunities to “rejoice and be glad” from their home in Waxhaw, NC.

“For we are God’s Masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10).

Leading a rapidly growing Fortune 500 power company (AES) and pioneering a start-up learning company (Imagine Schools) over a distinguished 25 year career, Steve values his 6 year membership in C12 Groups as vital to his development as an executive leader, to living out his faith in Jesus while running companies, and to the more than the ten-fold growth of his business enterprises. As VP of Development for C12 for an additional 6 years, Steve served national expansion efforts that exceeded 20% annual growth rate even during the Great Recession.

“I‘ve experienced first-hand through C12 the transformed lives and companies of my fellow owners along with my own, God has given me a passion to expand C12’s mission throughout Greater Charlotte. I can think of no more worthy enterprise than to join my long-time friend and associate Tony Tennaro in launching new C12 Groups in Greater Charlotte, especially focusing on the northern regions of Lake Norman, Hickory, Statesville and Concord.”

“Walk with the wise and become wise” is Steve’s favorite Proverb (Pr 13:20). “Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to seek out and find wiser, stronger, more talented, and more godly people than myself. Such exchanged wisdom as applied to business and all of life is a hallmark of our C12 Groups. Come and see for yourself.”

Purpose-driven and tenaciously committed to serving other marketplace leaders to live out their uniquely significant calling as owners and executives, Steve is grateful for his calling as a full-time C12 Chair. He says, “I have the rare privilege of doing what I love which is improving businesses for the greater purpose of advancing God’s Kingdom in His Marketplace”.

Steve and his beloved wife Ashley, married for 30 years, count among their greatest joys the raising of their 4 children and are relocating from Greensboro to the Charlotte region where they have a residence in Cornelius.

Starting in ’84 as an accountant for a fledgling independent power company, AES Corp, Steve served in a variety of roles from Project Manager to President of numerous AES development subsidiaries, and as VP of Public Affairs for IPL. AES grew to become a leading global energy company with $40 Billion in assets and $10 Billion in annual revenue. In ‘04, Steve joined as Executive Vice President Dennis Bakke, his mentor and AES co-founder to help launch Imagine Schools, a national charter school operating company that serves 36,000 students and their families through 3,500 teachers on 67 campuses in 11 states and DC. Steve earned his undergraduate degree from Duke University, and an MBA in Finance from George Washington University, and currently serves on church, missions and school boards.

Thanks to C12, my team is stronger than ever.
